About the Role

The Strategic Electrical Engineer at BASX is a senior-level position within the Strategic Development & Testing Group, focusing on research, design, development, and implementation of emerging PLC‑based control technologies. The role tackles complex engineering challenges while supporting new product and system development, and it also mentors engineering teams on strategic initiatives. Key responsibilities include developing and testing PLC programs across multiple platforms, creating new design‑review protocols, and generating detailed proposals for product development and research projects. The engineer also maintains a component roadmap, collaborates on vendor standards, and identifies acquisition targets for complementary technologies and intellectual property. • Develop and test PLC programs on platforms such as Carel, Automated Logic, and Allen Bradley • Create new protocols and standards for product design reviews • Draft proposals for product development and research projects, outlining objectives, methodology, timeline, budget, and outcomes • Maintain a roadmap for electrical and control components and collaborate on approved vendor/component standards • Identify acquisition targets for complementary technology and intellectual property • Design, engineer, and program product prototypes and develop new UL508A‑compliant electrical components • Assist in assembly, wiring, and testing of prototypes; develop testing plans, scripts, and apparatuses • Compile and analyze test data, generate validation reports, and author technical white papers • Ensure compliance with UL and NFPA standards and develop new engineering and construction practices • Mentor and guide solutions and products engineering teams on technical and project tasks

Key Responsibilities

  • plc programming
  • design protocols
  • prototype development

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred, and possess at least seven years of product engineering experience in UL508A, HVAC, or a comparable industry. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered. The role requires strong proficiency in CAD software such as Autodesk, solid knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer, and extensive expertise in DDC and PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text). Excellent problem‑solving, project management, communication, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and regulatory standards are essential. The position demands effective written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment. Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lb, spending most of the workday seated or standing, and occasional exposure to manufacturing conditions such as temperature extremes, dust, and chemical fumes. • Perform essential physical functions such as lifting up to 50 lb and working in manufacturing environments with temperature variations and dust exposure • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (Master’s preferred) and 7+ years of product engineering experience • Proficiency in CAD (e.g., Autodesk) and engineering analysis tools • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer principles • Extensive DDC and PLC programming expertise (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text) • Excellent problem‑solving, project management, and communication abilities
