About the Role

The role involves assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or material to construction projects. • Load, transport, unload and select appropriate cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves. • Attach pulleys and blocks to overhead structures using bolts and clamps. • Secure loads with grappling devices (loops, wires, ropes, chains) to crane hooks. • Direct crane operators or hoisting engineers using hand signals, loudspeaker, radio, or telephone to ensure safety. • Set up braces and rig hoisting equipment with hand tools and power wrenches. • Tie various knots as required. • Assemble and disassemble cranes. • Splice rope and wire cables to create or repair slings or tackle. • Direct workers in hoisting machinery onto or off ships, railcars, trucks, etc. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Observe all safety rules. • Coordinate hand and foot movements according to visual signals within accuracy standards. • Rate information using measurable standards. • Interpret flat drawings or diagrams into solid objects. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Compare size, shape, and form differences in lines, figures, and objects.
