About the Role
You will work closely with the Net Zero, Future Mobility and Freight growth areas and with specialist groups such as Public Transport, Active Travel and Transport Communications, delivering innovative solutions for public‑sector clients. Our portfolio includes active travel, public transport network planning, scheme appraisal and funding applications for local authorities, national bodies and private sector organisations. • Lead and manage transport planning projects, overseeing teams, budgets, schedules and technical quality. • Prepare bids, fee proposals and project programmes. • Support senior colleagues to grow client work across the UK. • Secure and deliver projects for a diverse local client portfolio. • Conduct technical review and quality checking of team deliverables. • Mentor and develop junior staff, acting as people manager or coach. • Contribute to WSP’s four pillars: People, Clients & Growth, Operations, Expertise. • Work for a global engineering firm with 69,000 employees and a strong regional pipeline.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate has experience delivering active‑travel and public‑transport projects for local and combined authorities, can develop transport strategies and policies, and is comfortable managing multiple deadlines while presenting to diverse stakeholders. Strong project‑management skills, commercial awareness and a willingness to mentor junior staff are also essential. • Own financial performance of projects and contribute to team commercial results. • Experience with local authorities on active travel, public transport, scheme development, studies, strategies and appraisals. • Proven ability to develop transport strategies, plans and policies. • Track record working with Local Authority and Combined Authority clients. • Strong multitasking and prioritisation to meet deadlines. • Excellent presentation and stakeholder engagement skills. • Project management expertise, including reviewing briefs, preparing fee proposals and leading delivery. • Commercial acumen and ability to support team management and junior development.
