About the Role
The Director will partner with business unit market leaders to develop positioning strategies for existing and potential customers, lead teams, and oversee strategic business planning, market positioning, and creation of internal and external communications and marketing materials. They will also coordinate pre‑qualification efforts, manage the interface between business development, pre‑construction, and marketing, and drive customer feedback on proposals and presentations. • Lead positioning activities of the business development team • Manage strategic business planning and develop positioning plans for company and project pursuits • Oversee creation and production of internal and external communications, marketing, branding, advertising materials, and presentations • Coordinate prequalification efforts with targeted customers and partners • Initiate customer feedback on proposals and presentations • Serve as interface between business development, pre‑construction, and marketing • Provide market sector insights and share corporate direction on the Business Development Advancement Team • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships and customer relationships, including community leaders, utilities, equipment manufacturers, and engineering firms • Identify new market sectors and potential future customers • Manage the development team, providing direction, training, and performance reviews • Set and manage department budget and ensure forethoughtful decision‑making for project success

What You Bring
Mortenson seeks an experienced Director of Business Development who can engage staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility, resourcefulness, proactivity, efficiency, professionalism, and confidentiality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail are essential. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field and have at least ten years of industry‑related business development experience. Strong management, customer‑relationship building, and marketing strategy execution skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and an understanding of construction law. • Familiarize with customer project estimates to facilitate discussions • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field • Minimum 10 years of industry‑related business development experience • Strong management and leadership abilities • Proven customer‑relationship building and regional market knowledge • Demonstrated success in developing and executing marketing strategies • Detail‑oriented with ability to manage multiple project tasks • Basic understanding of construction law and standard business practices • Proficient in Microsoft Office, project, and relevant web applications at an intermediate level • Positive professional attitude with strong customer service skills • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time
