About the Role
The engineer will collaborate with project managers, construction managers, and a wide array of stakeholders—including architects, contractors, inspectors, and consultants—to ensure projects comply with specifications, college standards, and Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements. Duties include field inspections, interpreting plans, preparing documentation, tracking project status, managing risks, and overseeing contractor performance. • Provide technical and engineering support to College Project Teams, including Project Managers and Construction Managers. • Coordinate with PMO staff, contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants, and College staff. • Participate in and occasionally lead design or construction meetings. • Conduct field checks on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, alteration, addition, or repair projects for compliance with specifications, plans, College standards, and DSA requirements. • Read and interpret construction plans and shop drawings. • Assist in preparing correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines. • Support development of weekly/monthly status reports and photo documentation. • Review, estimate, negotiate, and process construction change orders and field orders. • Review and enforce construction and professional services contracts. • Manage and direct contractors and outside consultants, including invoice approval. • Assess project risks and develop risk registers with mitigation strategies. • Facilitate resolution of construction and design issues. • Coordinate with architects for timely responses to RFIs, submittals, and construction change documents. • Generate and distribute meeting minutes for construction and design meetings. • Confirm contractor’s maintenance of record drawings before monthly progress payments. • Maintain project files in both electronic and paper formats. • Review submittals for conformance to plans and specifications. • Generate and draft Proposed Board Actions (PBA).

What You Bring
Ideal candidates possess 5–8 years of recent project or construction engineering experience and a BS/BA in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field, with the option to substitute additional experience for education. The role demands strong initiative, decision‑making ability, and comfort in a fast‑paced environment. Preferred experience includes educational programs, DSA projects, central‑plant work, large public‑works, and proficiency with PMIS tools such as Proliance, while professional credentials like PE or CCM are advantageous. • 5–8 years of recent professional experience in project or construction engineering. • BS/BA degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (experience may substitute for education). • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, take initiative, and make sound decisions. • Preferred: experience with educational programs, DSA projects, central‑plant projects, large public‑works, and PMIS systems like Proliance. • Preferred credentials: Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or similar.
