About the Role

The position is responsible for performing engineering and technical tasks, under general supervision, in support of nuclear plant operations. The engineer will perform assigned engineering and technical tasks using general engineering principles, ensure all engineering products comply with safety analyses, industry codes, specifications and regulatory requirements, and participate in developing and implementing effective processes and techniques. The role also involves recommending improvements to standard processes, and supporting emergency response, departmental coverage, call‑outs and outage activities as directed. The Fire Protection Program Engineer (FPPE) serves as the station’s technical authority for implementing and maintaining the Fire Protection Program in line with regulatory requirements, fleet procedures, and NFPA standards, providing technical leadership, supporting inspections, maintaining program health and collaborating with site engineering, operations, maintenance, corporate fire protection and external oversight bodies. • Maintain and update program documentation, including FPR, Safe Shutdown Analysis, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. • Prepare regular Program Health Reports/KPIs for Fire Protection and FLEX. • Perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and reviews on fire barriers, detection, suppression, and safe‑shutdown features. • Review and approve design changes affecting fire protection systems or licensing basis. • Lead or support internal assessments, OPEX/IR reviews, and NOS audits. • Support fire protection issue evaluation, event reports, failures, and CAP investigations. • Lead or assist with NRC Triennial Fire Protection Inspection preparation and corrective actions. • Participate in NEIL insurance inspections, audits, and follow‑ups. • Coordinate with Corporate Fire Protection Engineers for guidance and fleet alignment. • Join fleet working groups, peer calls, and industry committees such as INPO, NEI, and NFPA. • Mentor and support other fire protection or safe‑shutdown staff.

What You Bring

Entry‑level engineers must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, civil/structural, electrical, industrial, mechanical or nuclear) and meet minimum access and favorable medical examination requirements. Mid‑level engineers need a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least two years of nuclear or related engineering experience, plus the required access and medical qualifications. Senior engineers must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and five years of nuclear or related engineering experience, together with the necessary access and medical clearance. • Demonstrated experience in engineering programs, system ownership, or fire protection‑related functions. • Knowledge of NFPA codes, NRC regulatory requirements, and nuclear safety processes.
