About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Operator role involves operating a range of machines—including excavators up to 20 tons, dozers, loaders, forklifts, backhoes and articulated dump trucks—to perform tasks such as material handling, matting, land clearing, excavation, rough‑grade road construction and underground utility work on heavy‑civil, industrial and wind projects. The operator must promote and adhere to all company and safety policies, coordinate machine actions with crew signals, and conduct routine maintenance such as cleaning, greasing and oiling. Additional duties include loading and unloading materials, driving equipment with blades to grade terrain, and traveling to various job sites on short notice as directed by supervisors. • Operate excavators, dozers, loaders, forklifts, backhoes, and dump trucks for construction and utility tasks. • Perform land clearing, excavation, rough‑grade road building, matting and underground utility installation. • Load, transport and unload dirt, stone, equipment and waste materials using appropriate machinery. • Grade terrain by driving blade‑equipped equipment in successive passes to remove topsoil and level earth. • Coordinate equipment movements with crew members through hand or audio signals. • Conduct routine equipment upkeep, including cleaning, greasing, oiling and daily maintenance reporting. • Participate in daily toolbox meetings and model safe work behavior on‑site. • Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals and project documentation. • Apply basic arithmetic for weight, volume and measurement calculations related to job tasks. • Communicate clearly and listen actively to ensure understanding of job duties and safety regulations.

What You Bring

Candidates need 1‑3 years of heavy‑equipment experience, a minimum of one year in a similar role, and the ability to read safety rules, operating manuals and technical documents. Required skills include mechanical aptitude, basic arithmetic for weight and volume calculations, clear verbal communication, and knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs. The position demands up to 12‑hour shifts in changing weather and site conditions, with frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lb, climbing, crouching and working at heights while wearing required personal protective equipment. Workers must maintain balance, visual and auditory acuity, and the stamina to repeat physical tasks for extended periods. • Travel to multiple job sites on short notice and adapt to varied work environments. • Maintain physical stamina for 12‑hour shifts, lift up to 50 lb, and work at heights while using PPE.

Benefits

This full‑time role is scheduled for about 50 hours per week, with travel up to 90 percent of the time.
