About the Role

In this leadership position you will guide a multidisciplinary environmental team, manage transportation‑related environmental projects, and deliver high‑quality research, reports, and data analyses that impact regional transportation initiatives. You will apply expert knowledge of the SCDOT environmental process, align project deliverables with engineering milestones, and oversee the preparation of NEPA documents, permit applications, and environmental assessments. Responsibilities also include performing QA/QC on deliverables, guiding clients through permitting, managing schedules, budgets, and stakeholder communications, and providing technical expertise across natural resources, hazard mitigation, and public outreach. The role includes program‑management duties such as overseeing budgets, staffing, and timelines, mentoring junior staff, and supporting business‑development activities while ensuring consistent best‑practice approaches across the team. • Lead multidisciplinary environmental planning projects for transportation. • Apply SCDOT environmental process and align with engineering milestones. • Prepare NEPA documentation, permit applications, and environmental assessments. • Perform QA/QC on environmental deliverables and coordinate interdisciplinary teams. • Guide clients through permitting and environmental management to secure clearances. • Oversee project schedules, budgets, staffing, and stakeholder communications. • Mentor junior staff and support business development activities.

What You Bring

Minimum qualifications are a BA/BS in environmental, ecology, biology, engineering or related field and at least eight years of environmental planning experience. Preferred qualifications include three years of experience with SC Department of Transportation and other state or federal agencies, strong technical writing and GIS skills, proven leadership of interdisciplinary teams, and experience providing QA/QC for transportation‑related NEPA documents. • Minimum BA/BS in environmental or related field with 8+ years of planning experience. • Preferred experience with SCDOT, GIS, technical writing, and complex transportation projects. • Demonstrated leadership, client‑facing skills, and ability to manage fast‑paced projects.
