About the Role

In this role you will provide through‑life design and substantiation of pumps, valves, pressure vessels and pipework for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet, adhering to ASME III/VIII safety standards. You will develop full life‑cycle designs from concept to disposal, integrate cross‑discipline engineering, document and verify designs against best practices, present at technical reviews, and publish safety and technical reports for customer and regulator scrutiny. • Design and substantiate pumps, valves, pressure vessels, and pipework for nuclear submarines under ASME III/VIII standards. • Create full life‑cycle design solutions from concept through manufacture, operation, and disposal. • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and supply‑chain functions to integrate cross‑discipline concepts. • Document, verify, and present designs at technical reviews; publish safety and technical reports for regulatory scrutiny.

What You Bring

The successful candidate will be an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with exposure to process plant components, pressure vessels or assembly processes, proficient in CAD software, and hold an engineering qualification (Chartered, degree, HND/HNC or apprenticeship). Strong organisational, time‑management and multitasking abilities are essential. Desirable experience includes pressure‑vessel design to ASME Section III/VIII or PD5500, authoring technical substantiation reports, and background in civil nuclear, marine, defence, aerospace, petro‑chemical, oil & gas, special‑purpose machinery or automotive sectors. Applicants must hold a Security Check clearance or be eligible for one, and must be a UK national or a MoD‑approved dual national. Rolls‑Royce will support the security clearance process if required. • Required: Mechanical design experience, CAD proficiency, and an engineering qualification (Chartered/Degree/HND/HNC/Apprenticeship). • Essential skills: strong organization, time management, and ability to multitask within a team environment. • Preferred: Pressure‑vessel design experience (ASME III/VIII/PD5500) and experience authoring technical reports. • Security clearance required; eligibility limited to UK nationals or MoD‑approved dual nationals, with support provided for clearance.
