About the Role

In this role you will lead project delivery, provide technical oversight, and manage stakeholder communication while supporting business development for the Chicago office. You will be accountable for project scope, schedule, budget, risk mitigation, and profit performance throughout all phases. • Responsible for overall project management and establishing project‑specific objectives and policies. • Apply site investigation and remediation techniques to develop client solutions. • Engage existing and potential clients to discuss AECOM service capabilities and expand offerings. • Ensure project portfolio elements are delivered in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. • Provide technical oversight and enforce quality control throughout project execution. • Define project scope and objectives clearly at initiation. • Manage all project phases from kickoff through close‑out. • Predict resource needs and allocate resources efficiently. • Exercise decision‑making authority, recognize risks, and implement mitigation plans. • Deliver consistent project updates to stakeholders regarding strategy, adjustments, and progress. • Identify, mitigate, and manage project risks proactively. • Oversee complex client relationships and high‑visibility projects. • Achieve planned profit margins on assigned projects.

What You Bring

The Environmental Project Manager position is based in Chicago, Illinois, and operates in a hybrid office‑remote model. The role requires expertise in regulatory and client engagement on complex environmental sites, as well as experience in investigation and remediation projects. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, strong in written and verbal communication, and capable of both independent work and high‑performance team collaboration. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, environmental science or a related field and four years of relevant experience is required, along with U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and background checks. Preferred candidates bring six or more years of site investigation and remediation experience, professional licensure in the region, HAZWOPER and PMP certifications, and a record of business development and stakeholder negotiation. • BS in engineering, geology, environmental science or related field with 4+ years experience (or equivalent). • U.S. citizen or permanent resident; subject to background and MVR checks. • 6+ years experience in site investigation, remediation, project management, and business development. • Professional licensure (PE or Geologist) in IL, IN, KY, KS, MO, or OH. • Experience interfacing with state regulatory agencies in licensed states. • Proven ability to schedule resources for on‑time and on‑budget delivery. • Demonstrated business development experience. • Current 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification with 8‑hour supervisor training. • PMP certification. • Skilled in regulator and stakeholder negotiations. • Successful management of environmental projects for diverse client bases. • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. • Superior writing, editing, and reporting abilities for varied audiences. • Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.
