About the Role
The Ironworker 3 is responsible for performing increasingly complex structural steel and miscellaneous tasks on a variety of construction projects, including new construction, renovations, and other project types. Duties include erecting structural steel, bolting beams, columns and components, installing metal decking, and occasional administrative support for project leadership. Work is guided by JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values, and the role follows directions with supervision. • Utilize ironworking practices and tools to handle structural components such as beams and columns. • Assist in repairing or modifying structural steel under foremen direction. • Place structural members safely under supervision. • Install and fasten metal decking for floors and roofs. • Perform welding of structural components and modify metal parts by cutting or welding. • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to the ironworking team. • Complete JE Dunn reports, pre‑task planning, and material forecasting. • Coordinate safety procedures and task durations with foremen. • Deliver excellent customer service and collaborate with internal and external teams.

What You Bring
The position follows a clear career path to Trade Foreman 1 and requires adherence to safety standards, PPE compliance, and personal ownership of hand tools. Expected behaviors include punctuality, respectful communication, safety consciousness, and a can‑do attitude. The role may require lifting up to 50 lb, exposure to extreme temperatures, non‑traditional hours, respirator use, and work at heights or in confined spaces. Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, bending, and occasional computer work. • Read and interpret project plans and scope of work. • Demonstrate expertise in miscellaneous metalworking, welding, and structural assembly. • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. • Possess knowledge of all ironworking hand tools and maintain required tool inventory. • Apply basic construction math and layout principles. • High school diploma or GED required; apprenticeship, vocational, technical or trade training preferred. • Equivalent relevant experience considered in lieu of formal education. • Minimum 5 years of trade experience and commercial construction experience preferred. • Ability to lift at least 50 lb and work at heights, in narrow spaces, and variable temperatures. • Willingness to work non‑traditional hours and potentially use a respirator.
