About the Role

This engineering role focuses on environmental and solid waste projects, requiring extensive industry experience and strong problem‑solving and management abilities. The engineer will lead engineering and construction activities at solid waste disposal facilities, communicate with senior management, and mentor junior staff. The position supports WM’s leadership in delivering innovative waste‑management services to a diverse client base. The role involves physical tasks such as using finger‑dexterity for data entry and handling objects up to 30 pounds, with occasional exposure to chemicals, construction sites, and varying weather conditions. Travel up to 20% of the time within the regional market area is required to support site work and stakeholder engagements. • Engage and manage consulting firms for permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submittals. • Maintain strong relationships with regulators, representing WM at permit meetings, hearings, inspections, and as a community liaison. • Oversee landfill construction projects, including plan development, consultant and contractor coordination, budgeting, bid administration, and quality assurance. • Track and report capital budgets for engineering and construction projects following company procedures. • Coordinate landfill capacity tracking, conduct airspace calculations, create capacity projections, and develop fill sequencing and cell‑construction schedules. • Conduct regular site evaluations for compliance with construction and permit documents, and proactively obtain needed permits or modifications. • Collaborate with internal experts to deliver cost‑effective engineering solutions for operational, environmental, and compliance challenges. • Participate in acquisition reviews and divestiture evaluations, providing pro‑forma modeling and due‑diligence support.
