About the Role
KBR provides high‑end engineering and advanced technology solutions to intelligence and national security customers. The Director of Engineering for Mission Software will serve as the technical leader within the Office of the CTO, defining technical direction, reference architectures, and delivery standards for mission software investments across the IR&D portfolio. The position is remote with minimal travel and standard working hours. The role oversees the Mission Software Initiative, aligning multiple projects with the Mission Technology Strategy and 2030 objectives, and collaborates with other initiative leads (AI, Digital Integration, Mission Engineering, Digital Environment) to advance enterprise capabilities. Key responsibilities include reviewing IR&D proposals, shaping investments in open architectures and cloud‑scale mission software, providing technical leadership for capture efforts, and engaging customers to define requirements and integration pathways. The director will mentor engineers across business units, sponsor Communities of Practice, and define best practices in DevSecOps, CI/CD automation, software assurance, test harnesses, secure coding policies, and cloud orchestration, promoting reusable patterns and enterprise knowledge management. • Lead the Mission Software Initiative, defining and managing execution of multiple projects and roadmap elements. • Track initiative KPIs, technical milestones, risks, resourcing needs, and alignment to Mission Tech Strategy and 2030 objectives. • Coordinate with other initiative leads (AI, Digital Integration, Mission Engineering, Digital Environment) for cohesive enterprise advancement. • Review IR&D proposals related to mission software for feasibility, desirability, and strategic impact. • Shape IR&D investments around open architectures, cloud‑scale mission software, and future‑ready capabilities. • Provide technical leadership for captures and pursuits involving mission systems, OMS/FACE, mission applications, autonomy frameworks, and digitally enabled C2. • Engage with customers to shape technical requirements, architecture options, and integration pathways. • Mentor engineers across business units in mission architecture, DevSecOps, software assurance, digital engineering, and platform‑agnostic integration. • Sponsor and contribute to Communities of Practice, capability catalogs, reusable software patterns, and enterprise knowledge management. • Define and propagate best practices in DevSecOps, including CI/CD automation, software assurance, test harnesses, secure coding policies, and cloud orchestration.

What You Bring
Required qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of mission systems software experience, expertise in OMS, FACE, cloud‑native applications, DevSecOps toolchains, and an active TS/SCI clearance. Desired qualifications include advanced degrees, domain experience (ISR, autonomy, space, etc.), MBSE familiarity, and relevant certifications.
