About the Role

The position combines engineering expertise with cross‑disciplinary collaboration in a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment, empowering you to lead utility relocation and installation design, coordinate impacts with various utilities, prepare designs and calculations, ensure compliance with standards, deliver timely submittals, conduct site inspections, recommend infrastructure enhancements, facilitate contractor coordination, and support permitting and proposal development. • Lead design of wet utility relocation and installation, including sewers and watermains. • Coordinate utility impacts with hydro, telecom, and gas systems. • Prepare detailed and preliminary designs and engineering calculations. • Ensure compliance with project agreements, utility, municipal standards, and construction specifications. • Deliver accurate and timely submittals while managing competing priorities. • Conduct site inspections and produce detailed field reports. • Recommend enhancements to existing utility infrastructure based on evaluations. • Facilitate coordination with contractors for efficient, cost‑effective construction. • Participate in design and constructibility workshops. • Support permitting processes, proposal development, and other project tasks.

GFT is seeking a Project Engineer, Wet/Dry Utilities to join our Transportation Group in Toronto, ON. This hybrid role requires regular attendance at our Toronto office. At GFT, we’re building infrastructure that drives communities forward, and we want you to help lead the charge. As a Project Engineer specializing in wet utilities (sewers and watermains) with coordination experience in dry utilities (hydro, gas, telecom), you’ll play a pivotal role in the design, execution, and success of complex infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, has at least eight years of experience designing wet utility systems, and possesses an Engineer‑In‑Training or Professional Engineer license. Proficiency in CADD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D), geometry software, and MS Office, as well as demonstrated ability to coordinate dry utilities and manage utility relocations in transportation settings, is required. Strong communication skills, a proven track record of delivering high‑quality deliverables under tight deadlines, and familiarity with municipal standards and site inspection reporting are also essential. Preferred qualifications include a P.Eng designation in Ontario or eligibility for licensing, experience supporting Metrolinx, TTC, MTO, or other agency‑led programs, knowledge of local permitting processes, enthusiasm for continuous learning, and experience contributing to proposal writing or pursuit strategies. • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (or equivalent College Diploma). • Minimum 8 years of experience designing wet utility systems (watermain, sewer). • Engineer‑In‑Training or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Canada. • Proficiency in CADD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D) and MS Office. • Ability to coordinate design considerations for dry utilities (hydro, telecom, gas). • Experience managing utility relocations in transportation/infrastructure projects. • Strong communication skills and ability to meet tight deadlines. • Familiarity with municipal design standards, utility specifications, and site inspection reporting.
