Lead civil and sediment engineering for site investigation and remediation projects.
Job Highlights
About the Role
As a Managing Consultant, Site Investigation & Remediation Management Engineer in the Pacific Northwest, you will lead civil and sediment engineering aspects of ERM’s Site Investigation and Remediation Management practice. This role integrates upland and aquatic remedial design, grading and earthwork, stormwater management, and civil site development to protect human health and restore aquatic environments while enabling sustainable redevelopment. You will serve as a technical leader guiding multidisciplinary teams through investigation, concept development, permitting, and construction documentation, influencing projects regionally, nationally, and globally. The position can be based in a local ERM office with hybrid status or fully remote within 100 miles of an ERM office. In this role you will lead civil and sediment engineering design for investigation and remediation projects from concept through completion. You will develop and oversee plans and specifications for grading, earthwork, stormwater systems, erosion and sediment control, and in‑water sediment remedial features such as caps, armor layers, and containment systems. Hydraulic, erosion, and constructability considerations affecting sediment stability and long‑term performance will be evaluated, and Civil 3D‑based workflows will be applied to grading, drainage, access, and temporary works supporting in‑water activities. Coordination with environmental, geotechnical, and construction disciplines will ensure successful permitting and agency review. Key responsibilities include managing multiple civil design or investigation and remediation projects while ensuring scope, budget, and schedule compliance, and collaborating with ERM’s global experts to deliver best‑in‑class solutions. You will also provide leadership in staff development, performance management, and retention, drive business growth through client relationship management and cross‑selling of ERM’s services, and contribute to technical innovation and knowledge sharing across ERM’s global network. • Civil site design for grading, earthwork, and stormwater management. • Preparation of plans and specifications for remediation, redevelopment, renewable energy, or infrastructure projects.

Strong project management, team leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills are essential, as is the ability to travel for site visits and client meetings. Preferred qualifications include a master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant field and a Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within one year. Holding a PE license or the ability to obtain one within one year is considered an advantage. • Sediment engineering, including design support for in‑water or near‑water remediation (e.g., sediment caps, stabilization, erosion resistance, or removal support). • Experience supporting CERCLA‑style state or federal investigation and remediation projects, including sediment site investigations or remedial actions.
