What You Bring
NV5 is seeking a full-time Utility Services Technician III (utility locator) for our Charlotte, NC office. The technician will use industry‑specific equipment to safely locate underground utilities such as water, gas, power, fiber optic, and telephone, and verify existing utilities on project sites. Work is performed in two‑to‑four‑person crews, collecting condition data, assisting with vacuum excavation truck operation, and supporting land surveys for topographic maps. The role also involves understanding quality levels of SUE, implementing new technologies, and maintaining equipment. Candidates should have an associate’s degree (preferred) or at minimum a high school diploma/GED, and 1‑3 years of utility designation experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, knowledge of iOS, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and ability to type are advantageous. A valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain one) and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time are required. Familiarity with iPad or tablet use is a plus. • Possess 1‑3 years of utility designation experience; associate’s degree preferred, high school diploma minimum. • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with iOS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, iPad/tablet a plus. • Possess or obtain a valid driver’s license; travel up to 50% of time.

The position involves extensive field work under various outdoor conditions, requiring long periods of standing, walking, and climbing on rough terrain for up to 10‑12 hour days. Employees must frequently lift or push/pull up to 50 lb (occasionally up to 100 lb) and be able to perform a range of physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, and balance. Weekend, overtime, overnight travel, and overtime pay at time‑and‑half may be required, with per‑diem provided for overnight trips.
