About the Role

The Field Biologist will conduct pre‑construction nesting‑bird and other special‑status species surveys and monitor construction activities across the project area. Work sites are often remote, requiring independent field work and coordination with construction crews and environmental inspectors to maintain client compliance. Data will be collected electronically using handheld, sub‑meter GPS devices, and daily reports and survey compilations will be prepared. • Conduct pre‑construction nesting‑bird and special‑status species surveys. • Monitor construction activities and coordinate with crews and inspectors. • Collect field data electronically using handheld GPS with sub‑meter accuracy. • Prepare daily field reports and compile comprehensive survey documents. • Follow ERM’s rigorous safety program and any site‑specific safety protocols. • Travel to remote field locations, including overnight stays as required. • Identify nesting birds and species such as pygmy rabbit, burrowing owl, golden eagle, or ferruginous hawk.

What You Bring

All field activities must adhere to ERM’s rigorous safety program and any additional duties assigned by the project lead. The role involves travel to remote locations with overnight stays and demands the ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather and challenging terrain. Candidates must have at least two years of avian biology and special‑status species experience, with expertise in at least one of the following: pygmy rabbit, burrowing owl, golden eagle, or ferruginous hawk. Required skills include familiarity with nesting‑bird survey protocols, electric transmission and BLM experience, and proficiency with sub‑meter GPS, map interpretation (NWI, USGS, aerial photography), Field Maps, and Survey123 applications. Strong attention to detail, organizational and communication abilities, problem‑solving skills, and a valid driver’s license are also required. • Maintain at least 2 years of avian biology and special‑status species experience. • Demonstrate electric transmission and BLM project experience. • Use GPS, map interpretation, Field Maps, and Survey123 applications proficiently. • Work safely in variable weather conditions and challenging terrain. • Possess strong attention to detail, organizational and communication skills. • Hold a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a company vehicle.

Benefits

The annual base pay range for this limited‑term, non‑exempt position is $74,825 – $93,600 (approximately $35.97 – $45.00 per hour). Compensation within this range depends on education, experience, certifications, geographic location, performance, travel requirements, and other business factors. Bonus eligibility varies by employment type; casual and Flexforce employees are not eligible for bonus pay. Employees may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and life & disability insurance. Benefits eligibility applies to regular employees working 20 or more hours per week; fixed‑term employees working 20+ hours receive a limited benefits package, while casual employees are not eligible.
