About the Role

The role includes traffic engineering and project management across a variety of transportation planning, transit, safety, and intelligent transportation systems projects for diverse clients. The engineer is expected to bring an entrepreneurial mindset, manage projects profitably, mentor staff, and contribute to marketing and business development while collaborating closely with engineers, designers, jurisdictions, and contractors to build strong professional relationships. • Deliver transportation planning, transit, traffic engineering, safety, and ITS projects for diverse clients. • Manage projects profitably, oversee hands‑on delivery, transition work to qualified staff, and mentor team members. • Lead marketing and business development efforts, pursuing leads and client relationships. • Collaborate with engineers, designers, jurisdictions, and contractors to build internal and external professional networks.

What You Bring

Kimley-Horn's Loudoun, VA office is seeking a Civil Engineer with more than four years of experience to join their Transportation Planning and Traffic team, and the position is not remote. Candidates must have at least four years of relevant experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or ITS design, along with a Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one within twelve months. Desired skills include proficiency in Synchro, HCS, or Vissim, strong teamwork, multitasking, communication, and the ability to produce high‑quality deliverables and mentor staff, as well as experience writing proposals and budgeting. • Minimum 4 years of experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or ITS design. • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within 12 months. • Proficiency with Synchro, HCS, and/or Vissim software (desired). • Strong teamwork, multitasking, communication, and staff‑mentoring abilities. • Experience writing proposals, scopes of work, and budgeting for projects.
