About the Role

The Mechanical Intern Helper IV assists with applying, removing, and repairing insulation on a variety of mechanical systems, including equipment, pipes, ductwork, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and vessels. The role supports noise control and temperature maintenance while working under supervision. • Read and interpret blueprints, instructions, and other documentation to plan work activities. • Determine and select the appropriate insulation material (sheet, tubular, or roll) based on heat retention, location, surface, shape, and equipment use. • Move materials and equipment to work locations and set up the work site. • Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement, or asphalt mastic. • Fit insulation around obstructions and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required. • Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to protect insulation from weather and physical damage. • Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors. • Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins. • Secure insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape using staple guns, trowels, paintbrushes, or caulking guns. • Follow all hazardous waste handling guidelines. • Remove or seal off old asbestos insulation following safety procedures. • Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform clean‑up and housekeeping activities. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal protective equipment, and perform other duties as required.
