About the Role

The lineman works safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized underground work. Duties include stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear, troubleshooting primary and secondary systems, replacing fuses, and handling high‑voltage systems while protecting lives. The employee also maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools and performs any other related tasks needed to complete the job. • Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized underground systems safely. • String overhead wire. • Set poles and anchors. • Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear. • Troubleshoot primary and secondary systems. • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits. • Work with energized high‑voltage systems, protecting lives. • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools. • Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit. • Use a load buster tool. • Install and hook up a single‑phase transformer. • Properly install and remove PPE and cover‑up. • Check voltage on transformers. • Climb various structures and use appropriate tools. • Phase out a line using phasing sticks. • Conduct pre‑job or tailgate briefings effectively. • Work live high‑voltage distribution power lines with gloves. • Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers. • Travel long distances on short notice. • Work extended periods in various locations. • Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly. • Work outdoors in inclement weather. • Follow company safety rules and all other policies.

The Class B Lineman Underground is a semi‑skilled role responsible for construction, maintenance, and repair of underground electrical distribution systems. The position works at various locations and may require travel to another state depending on customer demands. The role demands rigorous physical labor and the ability to identify primary and secondary voltage, understand induced voltage, and use load‑buster tools. It also requires installing single‑phase transformers, safely setting poles, understanding equipment setup and grounding, working at heights or in confined spaces, properly installing and removing PPE, checking transformer voltage, tying in primary conductors, climbing various structures, phasing lines with phasing sticks, obtaining a one‑shot on reclosers, conducting pre‑job or tailgate briefings, working live high‑voltage lines with gloves, and safely handling mechanical jumpers. Minimum requirements include at least three years of recent field experience and the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days (CDL preferred). The candidate must be willing to travel long distances on short notice, work extended periods in various locations, lift more than 50 lb, properly inspect rubber goods and PPE, work overtime when requested, and perform outdoors in inclement weather while following all safety rules and company policies. Availability for weekends, holidays, and overtime is also required. Physical demands involve frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands to handle and feel equipment, as well as reaching with arms.
