About the Role

As a 2nd Shift Operating Engineer at JLL in Northern Illinois, you will install, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and related controls at client facilities, working from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. while overseeing daily operations of all mechanical equipment in the physical plant and buildings. The role includes responsibility for Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems, providing backup coverage during emergencies and ensuring operational excellence and client service. • Control daily operation of all mechanical equipment during 2nd shift operations • Monitor and maintain refrigeration, water cooling, air‑conditioning, boilers, heating, ventilating, and hot water equipment • Oversee pumps, valves, piping, filters, and other mechanical/electrical equipment for optimal performance • Perform maintenance and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life‑safety, and control systems • Evaluate building systems to improve performance and operating efficiencies • Formulate and implement preventative maintenance program with Operations Manager • Perform preventative maintenance tasks promptly while ensuring compliance with standards • Complete all tenant service requests accurately and expediently during evening shift • Monitor quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors • Participate in emergency response procedures and safety training programs • Track and report time worked according to account policies and procedures • Comply with all purchasing and receiving policies and procedures • Report property issues outside direct responsibility to supervisor or call center team • Complete required training and safety programs while maintaining professional development • Periodically act as on‑call engineer for portfolio of buildings • Handle special projects and other functions as required by manager or client • Perform all work using proper safety equipment and report safety issues to supervisor • Comply with all building policies and procedures • Actively participate in emergency response procedures and safety training programs
