What You Bring

This position is the second level of the Distribution Engineering Technologist classification. It provides intermediate technical expertise to evaluate complex options and design power distribution facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial projects in a safe, cost-effective, and reliable manner. The incumbent is expected to have substantial experience with customer design processes and the client’s specific technical areas. The work is classified as moderately routine with general policies applied and requires occasional decision-making and tactful influence on moderate‑nature decisions. Applicants must have regular attendance, a high school diploma or GED (with preference for an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field), and 1–3 years of utility power distribution engineering or craft experience. On‑the‑job training combines job shadowing, classroom instruction, and mentorship during the first year. Key competencies include reading and interpreting technical documents, writing reports and business correspondence, presenting information to customers and teams, and performing basic arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Candidates must be able to follow written, oral, and diagrammatic instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables. The role demands frequent standing, walking, and sitting, regular verbal communication, and consistent use of hands for tools; occasional climbing, stooping, and reaching; and the ability to lift up to 10 lb frequently and up to 25 lb occasionally. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color discrimination, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
