About the Role
The Mechanical Design Coordinator will coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects, perform routine mechanical engineering assignments using standard techniques, write and edit specifications, and select mechanical systems and devices. They will use engineering software to develop HVAC loads, conduct energy analysis, and select equipment, and prepare construction documents including drawings, specifications, and reports. In addition, the Coordinator will work independently on small projects or assist senior engineers on larger ones, supervise Mechanical CAD Technicians, coordinate design with architectural staff and other disciplines, handle construction contract administration with field inspections and conflict resolution, and perform other duties as needed. • Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects • Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments using standard techniques and procedures • Write and edit mechanical specifications; select mechanical systems and devices • Utilize engineering software to develop HVAC loads, conduct energy analysis, and select equipment • Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design, including drawings, specifications, and reports • Work independently on small projects or assist senior engineers on larger projects • Supervise Mechanical CAD Technicians and coordinate design with architectural staff and other engineering disciplines • Manage construction contract administration, including field inspections and conflict resolution

What You Bring
Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis, an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate (or intent to obtain), experience in healthcare, science and technology, or civic facilities, and interest in sustainable design/LEED. Prior experience with an architectural or engineering consulting firm is also valued. Required qualifications are a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar, and equipment selection software), and a commitment to actively participating in HDR’s employee‑owned culture. • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with mechanical emphasis • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or commitment to obtain • Experience with healthcare, science & technology, or civic facilities • Interest in sustainable design/LEED (desired) • Prior experience at an architectural/engineering consulting firm • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar, equipment selection software)
