About the Role

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will perform a variety of general utility duties safely and efficiently. Tasks include scaffold erection and dismantling, non‑asbestos pipe insulation work, routine maintenance, operation of snow‑plowing and mobile sweeping equipment, and cleaning and preventative maintenance of plant equipment. • Perform scaffold erection/dismantling and non‑asbestos pipe insulation removal/installation. • Execute heavy labour, routine and preventative maintenance, and operate snow‑plowing and mobile sweeping equipment. • Clean plant equipment and conduct environmental and vegetative control activities. • Support fellow Utilityworkers and travel province‑wide for temporary assignments as needed. • Complete required training (safety, environmental, SAIA scaffold endorsement, vehicle operation) and engage in on‑the‑job skill development. • Ensure personal and co‑worker safety by following Occupational Health and Safety rules and participating in risk assessments. • Maintain environmental performance in accordance with the company's management system.

What You Bring

The position requires active participation in mandatory training programs such as in‑house safety, environmental awareness, SAIA scaffold endorsement, and vehicle operation. Workers must maintain personal and co‑worker safety by adhering to Occupational Health and Safety regulations and must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy, which includes a confidential pre‑employment test. Applicants need at least a Grade 12 education or equivalent, strong reading and writing skills, and the ability to perform heavy labour using hand and power tools. A valid Nova Scotia driver's licence with a minimum of two years' experience, a solid environmental awareness, and any certification in scaffold erection or pipe insulation are considered assets. The role demands significant physical effort: lifting 17‑66 lb, carrying 25‑66 lb, pushing/pulling up to 50 lb, frequent walking, and occasional standing, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, or crawling. Workers must also be able to discriminate colours, tolerate warm temperatures, and operate safely in confined spaces using appropriate PPE. • Comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy, including a pre‑employment test. • Hold at least a Grade 12 education or equivalent with strong reading/writing abilities. • Demonstrate ability to perform heavy labour using hand and power tools with minimal supervision. • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence, two years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driver’s abstract. • Display strong environmental awareness and knowledge of recycling standards (asset). • Have experience or certification in scaffold erection or pipe insulation (asset). • Ability to work in confined spaces using appropriate personal protective equipment. • Lift 17‑66 lb, carry 25‑66 lb, push/pull 20‑50 lb, and perform frequent walking and occasional bending, squatting, and twisting. • Discriminate colours, adapt to warm temperatures, and operate safely in confined environments.
