About the Role
Professional Services is the technical and project‑execution leadership element of the Resources Business Group, tasked with building a team of industry‑recognized practitioners who solve client challenges competitively, deliver quality professional services, and lead contracted work. • Develop and mentor staff through technical onboarding, training, and ongoing guidance. • Participate in internal and external technical working or practice groups. • Implement technical standards, guidelines, tools, and recommended practices for the area. • Facilitate project‑level lessons‑learned meetings or workshops. • Identify project delivery team requirements (experience, expertise, availability) for critical projects. • Partner with Area Leadership to recruit and retain technical and delivery staff. • Support local area/region in Go/No‑Go decisions, proposal development, and strategic pursuits. • Lead technical reviews of proposals. • Drive HDR’s quality processes, enhance business‑class quality procedures, and lead Project Approach and Resource Review meetings. • Achieve 70‑75% utilization by actively leading or supporting projects. • Mentor and coordinate workshare across multiple area offices.

What You Bring
The Area Substation Business Class Leader provides subject‑matter guidance, a strong internal reputation for leadership, and supports HDR’s Global Substation Business Class with area‑focused technical leadership for initiatives and regional operations. • Active participant in internal and external technical working groups. • Subject‑matter expert with strong knowledge of substation design concepts. • Experience designing or reviewing substation design packages. • Deep knowledge of best practices, industry standards, and codes for substation design. • Proficient with substation design software. • Familiarity with area and regional client needs, stakeholder expectations, and industry committees. • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related professional field. • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience. • Holds a professional or engineering registration with related technical experience. • Proven experience managing and developing diverse teams. • Ability to collaborate with area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers. • Demonstrated active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
