Successful candidates must possess the physical stamina to perform strenuous outdoor work in all weather conditions, be prepared to respond to emergency callouts after normal hours and on weekends, and be able to live within 40 minutes (or 40 miles) of the Boulder Operations Center. Safe and proficient pole‑climbing, self‑motivation, teamwork, a positive attitude, and a strong commitment to safety are essential. Applicants must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Class A CDL with a Medical Examiner’s Certificate, and have completed a qualified apprenticeship resulting in a Journeyman Lineman certification. They should have extensive knowledge of primary feeder circuits, transformer loading, fusing practices, and experience with electric meter sets, hot‑line tools, protective devices, and a variety of line construction and maintenance vehicles. The hiring process includes an online assessment followed by a selection review, and qualified candidates must pass the Xcel Energy Journeyman Lineman test on site.
