About the Role
The Landfill Gas Technician I reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for operating and maintaining the landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS). The GCCS includes extraction wells, piping, and gas conveyance equipment, and its proper operation ensures compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. Key duties include calibrating and maintaining electronic data collection devices, managing data entry from wellfield and monitoring sites, and executing the preventative maintenance plan. The technician also troubleshoots liquid management pumps, adjusts wellfield valves and vacuums, performs piping maintenance using PVC or HDPE materials, completes required training, follows health and safety procedures, and remains on‑call for system malfunctions. • Operate and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) to ensure regulatory compliance. • Calibrate and upkeep electronic data collection devices for optimal LFG extraction. • Collect, enter, and interpret data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring locations. • Implement and follow the GCCS preventative maintenance plan. • Troubleshoot and maintain liquid management system pumps and adjust wellfield valves/vacuum. • Perform maintenance on PVC and HDPE piping materials and associated equipment. • Provide on‑call response to GCCS malfunction events.

What You Bring
Required qualifications are a valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Preferred qualifications include experience in environmental fieldwork or related trades, knowledge of gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, flares, PVC/HDPE piping, data logging, and a mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment, as well as the ability to work independently in field conditions. The role involves both indoor gas‑plant work and outdoor field work in various weather conditions, requiring physical stamina and adherence to health and safety standards. • Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I training and adhere to health and safety procedures. • Maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license. • Possess experience in environmental fieldwork, construction, electrical, mechanical, or related hands‑on environments. • Demonstrate knowledge of gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, or flare systems. • Experience with PVC or HDPE piping and components. • Proficiency with data logging systems and computer data entry/interpretation. • Show mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting pumps, motors, and pneumatic equipment. • Work independently in field environments with minimal supervision.
