About the Role
The Design Manager role provides project leadership for high‑voltage (HV) and medium‑voltage (MV) infrastructure projects, covering transmission lines, substations, and power systems across utility, industrial, and renewable sectors. The role combines technical excellence with team leadership to deliver constructible, cost‑effective, and sustainable designs that meet scope, budget, and schedule, while fostering inclusive, multidisciplinary teams and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities involve collaborating with cross‑functional teams, managing design inputs and outputs from pursuit to delivery, developing engineering solutions that balance present activities with future economic, social, and environmental impacts, and demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of Australian engineering standards. The role also requires evaluating ongoing projects to identify performance deficiencies and propose corrective actions. • Lead design of HV/MV infrastructure projects from concept through delivery. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure constructible, cost‑effective, sustainable designs. • Develop engineering solutions that balance economic, social, and environmental considerations. • Apply Australian engineering standards (IEC, IEEE, AS/NZS) and ensure compliance. • Identify performance issues in projects and propose corrective actions. • Manage design inputs/outputs and oversee the design process for successful outcomes. • Provide technical leadership and mentor team members. • Oversee constructability, systems integration, and technical governance. • Maintain a safety‑first mindset throughout design activities.

What You Bring
Required skills include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 10 years of experience leading engineering teams in HV/MV systems (132 kV and above), with five years of fieldwork preferred. Candidates should have exposure to Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractors or transmission network service providers, proven leadership in nurturing internal teams, knowledge of constructability, systems integration, technical governance, and familiarity with standards such as IEC, IEEE, and AS/NZS, all within a strong safety‑first mindset. • Require minimum 10 years experience leading HV/MV engineering teams (132 kV+); 5 years field experience preferred. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. • Experience with Tier 1/ Tier 2 contractors or transmission network service providers is highly regarded. • Demonstrate strong communication and cross‑functional leadership skills.
