About the Role
Mortenson seeks a proactive Safety Engineer II to implement the Zero Injury Safety program, ensuring a safe environment for employees, subcontractors, and visitors. The engineer will interact with staff at all levels, maintain professionalism and confidentiality, and support site‑specific safety initiatives. • Implement and manage site safety programs. • Develop and execute project‑specific safety plans with management. • Conduct safety orientations, training sessions, and safety meetings. • Document, track, and analyze safety violations and incidents. • Perform work‑area safety audits and trend analyses of leading/trailing indicators. • Lead major incident investigations and hazard analyses. • Coordinate OSHA reporting, posting, and compliance requirements. • Review subcontractor safety submittals and monitor work plans for safety concerns. • Assist with injury case management, return‑to‑work, and modified‑duty assignments. • Organize safety celebrations, recognition, and reward programs. • Provide safety resources, address industrial‑hygiene concerns, and act as a safety point of contact. • Ensure maintenance and inspection of PPE and safety equipment; manage safety budget.

What You Bring
The Safety Engineer II position is based at Mortenson’s industrial manufacturing plant in Forney, Texas. Candidates must live near or be willing to relocate to the area and work on‑site Monday‑through‑Friday, with occasional Saturdays. The role is not eligible for rotations or per diem. Candidates must hold a four‑year degree in health or safety, or alternatively a high school diploma combined with STS/CHST certification, OSHA 30‑hour training, and extensive construction experience. Electrical or heavy‑industrial manufacturing background is highly preferred. • Prior internship or experience in safety preferred. • Detail‑oriented with ability to manage multiple project tasks. • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety‑related software programs. • Strong communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, and leadership skills. • Effective public speaking and presentation abilities. • Valid driver’s license. • Minimum 7 years construction experience (5 years with safety program responsibility) or equivalent education/certifications.

The base salary ranges from $81,800 to $110,400, with adjustments for certain office locations.
