About the Role
The role is based in Memphis, TN and reports to the General Manager. It carries overall responsibility for the pre‑construction process from project inception through the start of construction, overseeing the Business Unit Estimating department and ensuring appropriate resource allocation. Key duties include managing estimating staff and associated G&A costs, cultivating relationships with clients, architects, and trade partners, and leading hiring, onboarding, and performance management. The position also oversees the review of drawings and specifications, development of lump‑sum bids, market research, value‑engineering processes, and coordination with Business Development, Procurement, Operations, and Lean teams to support milestones, constructability reviews, and budget control. • Manage and allocate resources for the BU Estimating department during preconstruction. • Oversee reimbursement and G&A expense tracking for estimating staff. • Develop and maintain client, architect, design, and trade partner relationships. • Lead hiring, onboarding, performance feedback, and annual appraisals for direct reports. • Review drawings, specifications, and construction documents, flagging design risks. • Develop and obtain senior‑management approval for lump‑sum bids. • Conduct market research to inform upcoming work opportunities. • Coordinate development and review of General Conditions/General Requirements estimates. • Maintain historical estimating data and analyze cost trends. • Manage the value‑engineering process throughout preconstruction. • Collaborate with Business Development on proposals and client presentations. • Work with Procurement to evaluate schedules and subcontractor proposals. • Support Launch Matrix preparation, milestone scheduling, and meeting execution with Operations Lead. • Perform constructability reviews and integrate findings into milestone estimates. • Partner with Lean Manager to create pull plans for design, estimate, and GMP schedules. • Prepare variance analyses and communicate differences to project stakeholders. • Generate and manage Budget Control Reports across milestone estimates. • Lead or support Target Value Design processes on select projects. • Provide accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of estimating documents. • Develop client relationships, identify sales opportunities, and collaborate on solutions. • Maintain extensive knowledge of regional market, competition, and industry trends. • Provide management, coaching, and mentorship to team members. • Drive initiatives with energy, persistence, and completion focus.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field and have at least ten years of building‑construction experience. They need deep knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and accounting principles, strong project‑management and leadership abilities, and excellent negotiation and executive‑level presentation skills. The role requires occasional on‑site work, lifting up to 20‑50 pounds, and adherence to safety policies. • Possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 10+ years of construction experience. • Demonstrate expertise in drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction methods. • Apply knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, purchasing, engineering, and accounting principles. • Exhibit advanced project‑management skills to handle high‑volume, complex projects. • Utilize strong negotiation, influencing, and executive‑level presentation abilities.
