About the Role

Identify all tools required for tasks. Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks. Identify and mix paint and coatings as required. Know the proper use and techniques (stroke types) required per the paint/coating used and the item being painted or coated. Must be able to work at heights and off of ladders and scaffolds safely. Clean up work areas. • Prepare surfaces using abrasive blasting and power tool cleaning per manufacturer specifications. • Paint equipment and structures for protection and aesthetic finish. • Mix and maintain knowledge of paints and coating materials. • Identify and gather required tools for each painting task. • Assess safety risks and implement necessary precautions. • Mix paints and coatings as required. • Apply proper stroke techniques for each coating type. • Work safely at heights, ladders, scaffolds, and platforms. • Clean up work areas after completing tasks. • Determine appropriate coating methods, mixtures, and number of coats. • Follow all safety, company, and site regulations.

What You Bring

Must be able to prepare surfaces by means of abrasive blast, and power tool cleaning according to paint manufacturer surface prep recommendations. Industrial Journeyman Painter will paint equipment and structures for protection and cosmetic purposes. The position will also be required to maintain, mix, and have thorough knowledge of paint and other coating material so that to ensure the equipment or structure is painted and protected as per contract or specifications. Must have all Knowledge Skills and Abilities required (see below). Must be willing to assist other crafts while not actively working on a painting project. Must be able to meet all physical requirements. Must be able and willing to follow all safety rules and regulations. Must have all required tools. Must have reliable transportation. Must have 4+ years working as a Painter or Painter Helper on an industrial construction project. Must have knowledge on materials, tools, and processes involved with basic painting techniques and knowledge of paint qualities. Must be able to identify the relationship to materials to be painted and the technique, mixture, and number of coatings required. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work full work schedule and any additional overtime with little to no notification. Must be willing to work safely and follow all safety rules and regulations. Must follow all company and site rules and regulations. Must have required tools. Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc. National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) certification for Industrial Journeyman Painter. Formal/Technical education. Some experience working with scaffolding, insulation, airless painting. Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting. Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools. May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs. Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, work off of platforms and man lifts, and may occasionally work out on an open structure using the appropriate fall protection requirements. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and leather work boots. Required tools include a metal tool box with lock, a pair of channel locks, a 25' or 30' tape measure, a 12" crescent wrench, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, a wet mil gauge, and a 7/8" open‑end/box wrench. • Minimum 4 years experience as an industrial painter or painter helper. • Knowledge of materials, tools, basic painting techniques, and paint qualities. • Reliable transportation and ownership of required personal tools. • Ability to work full schedule and overtime with little notice. • Preferred NCCER certification for Industrial Journeyman Painter. • Experience with Zachry Industrial, scaffolding, insulation, and airless painting. • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, lift up to 50 lb, and communicate effectively. • Use required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, and leather boots. • Required tools: metal tool box, channel locks, tape measure, crescent wrench, Phillips & flathead screwdrivers, wet‑mil gauge, and open‑end/box wrench.
