About the Role

In this position you will be accountable for safe, compliant and cost‑effective operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment assets across a defined geographic area, working closely with operators, peers, senior management, MEICA and process scientists. A major part of the role is to build, lead and develop a skilled team, ensuring they meet productivity, utilisation and serviceability targets while adhering to health‑ and safety policies and the ISO‑14001 environmental management system. You will liaise with external contractors and regulatory bodies, drive data‑focused improvements, monitor performance metrics and take corrective action when needed, and you may be required to represent Southern Water to the media or handle incidents out of hours. All employees are part of a 24/7 incident support framework, ensuring rapid response to service disruptions and delivering the company’s core purpose of “Water for Life” to customers. • Ensure safe, compliant, and cost‑effective operation and maintenance of wastewater assets in the assigned region. • Lead, coach and develop a team of operators to meet productivity, utilisation and serviceability targets. • Integrate asset processes into water/wastewater operations to improve data quality and inform business planning. • Monitor operational performance indicators and implement corrective actions as required. • Liaise with external contractors and manage works affecting site(s). • Enforce health‑ and safety procedures and maintain ISO‑14001 environmental compliance. • Represent Southern Water with regulatory bodies and media during incidents or events. • Participate in out‑of‑hours incident rotas and respond promptly to service disruptions. • Apply water‑process, chemistry or related industry knowledge to optimise treatment performance.

The Field Performance Manager role in the Waste Water team at Southern Water, based in Eastbourne, is a full‑time permanent position (37 hours per week) with a salary of up to £51,000 and requires a full UK driving licence. The ideal candidate holds a full UK driving licence, can be on short‑notice rotas, brings water‑process or related chemistry experience, demonstrates strong remote‑team leadership, resilience under pressure and the ability to balance competing priorities. • Demonstrate strong leadership of remote teams, handling pressure and conflicting priorities.
