Lead a 15-person Mechanical Plant Design team for HVDC projects in North America.

About the Role
As the Manager for Mechanical Plant Design in North America, you will lead a team of roughly 15 engineers and coordinate with fellow managers in India, Canada, and Sweden. You will be responsible for ensuring the engineering team is properly resourced, developed, and equipped to meet business needs. The role also includes delivering project outcomes while adhering to Hitachi’s guiding principles. You will manage employee‑related activities such as recruitment, onboarding, training, planning, monitoring, and performance appraisal. Together with senior management you will address escalated issues, troubleshoot challenges, and continuously monitor project progress. Driving quality and productivity improvements through target setting, benchmarking, and compliance with global and local standards will be a key focus. You will also share best practices and lessons learned across the organization while ensuring performance and quality goals are met throughout all project phases. • Recruit, onboard, and develop a 15‑person mechanical engineering team. • Conduct performance planning, monitoring, and appraisal for team members. • Resolve escalated project issues and troubleshoot challenges with senior management. • Set quality and productivity targets, benchmark progress, and drive continuous improvement. • Ensure compliance with global and local standards, policies, and processes. • Share project best practices and lessons learned across the organization.

What You Bring
A bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or related) and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, along with cultural sensitivity for leading a diverse team. Candidates need at least three years of experience in design‑for‑installation, construction interfaces, and the full lifecycle of mechanical engineering. The ability to balance technical decisions with business priorities, and prior experience as a people manager in a dynamic global organization, are essential. Building strong relationships with employees and management is also expected. • Maintain a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least three years of design‑for‑installation experience. • Demonstrate strong communication, cultural sensitivity, and people‑management skills.
