About the Role

In this position, the manager will mentor and develop accounting staff, provide onboarding and ongoing coaching, and act as a subject‑matter expert for complex accounting and billing issues. They will promote collaboration and consistency across the firm’s multiple offices and teams. The manager oversees the entire project accounting lifecycle, from initial setup through closeout, and reviews client billings to confirm they align with contracts, budgets, and internal procedures. They also evaluate consultant invoices for compliance with budgetary and policy guidelines. Regularly assessing project financial health, the manager monitors fee utilization, labor tracking, and performance against approved budgets, helping Project Managers understand financial status and resolve any budgeting or billing discrepancies. Quality control is a key responsibility, with the manager establishing consistent accounting, billing, and reporting practices across projects, conducting reviews of financial reports, and supporting month‑end close activities related to project accounting. Collaboration with project teams includes assisting with project setup, billing schedules, and contract requirements, as well as advising on the use of Deltek Vantagepoint and serving as a liaison between accounting and project personnel. The role also leads training initiatives and best‑practice adoption within Deltek Vantagepoint, documents and refines accounting procedures, and supports system enhancements that improve project accounting and billing workflows. • Lead, mentor, and train the project accounting team on firm standards. • Conduct monthly reviews of client billings (AIA, percentage‑of‑construction, lump‑sum, time‑&‑materials, reimbursables). • Verify billing compliance with contract terms, budgets, and firm procedures. • Review consultant invoices for budget and policy adherence. • Monitor project financial health, including fee utilization and labor tracking. • Support Project Managers in understanding financial status and budget alignment. • Resolve budget variances and billing issues promptly. • Perform quality reviews of project financial reports and billing documentation. • Assist with month‑end close activities related to project accounting. • Collaborate with Project Managers on project setup, billing schedules, and contract requirements. • Provide guidance on Deltek Vantagepoint usage and accounting processes. • Lead training and best‑practice implementation within Deltek Vantagepoint. • Document, refine, and improve project accounting procedures and workflows. • Support system enhancements for project accounting and billing. • Participate in monthly happy hours, team outings, and community service activities. • Utilize an online professional licensure exam prep library and weekly lunch‑and‑learn sessions.

What You Bring

PBK is looking for an experienced Project Accounting Manager to lead, train, and support the project accounting team while overseeing the financial health and budget performance of architectural projects. The role ensures accurate and consistent project accounting and billing practices and works closely with Project Managers and leadership to facilitate successful project delivery. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, bring at least seven years of project accounting experience in an architectural or engineering firm, and possess strong knowledge of billing, work‑in‑process accounting, and budget management, along with advanced proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint and excellent communication skills. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Possess 7+ years of project accounting experience in an architectural or engineering firm. • Demonstrate strong knowledge of architectural project billing, WIP accounting, and budget management. • Exhibit advanced proficiency with Deltek Vantagepoint. • Experience supporting multi‑office or national A/E firms (preferred). • Experience developing and training accounting teams (preferred). • Enjoy flexible work scheduling and hybrid/remote work options.
