About the Role

The senior planner will lead and assist on a variety of planning policy assignments, from local plan evidence studies to strategic growth and infrastructure strategies. You will advise internal and external clients, represent AECOM at stakeholder meetings and conferences, and ensure projects are delivered on budget and on schedule through effective multidisciplinary coordination. • Lead and support key planning policy projects, including local authority policy development, evidence studies, and strategic growth studies. • Provide strategic planning advice to clients and internal teams. • Build and maintain relationships with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders, representing AECOM at conferences and events. • Ensure project delivery on budget and schedule, coordinating multidisciplinary teams. • Contribute to quality assurance, health and safety compliance, and produce high‑quality technical reports. • Support business development by nurturing client relationships and preparing commercial tenders.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate has significant experience leading planning policy and strategy development in a consultancy or public‑sector setting, strong client‑focused interpersonal skills and existing relationships with local authorities. A degree in Town Planning (or a related discipline) and membership of the RTPI (or progression towards it) are required, alongside the ability to produce high‑quality technical reports, work under pressure and maintain a high commitment to quality. • Demonstrate significant experience in planning policy and strategy development, preferably in consultancy or public sector. • Possess strong client‑facing and stakeholder management skills with existing relationships. • Hold a degree in Town Planning (or related) and RTPI membership (or working towards it). • Exhibit high commitment to quality, strong communication, and ability to work independently under pressure.
