About the Role
The Operating Engineer S2 – Critical Environments maintains and repairs electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment, machinery and controls located both inside and outside the building. At the direction of a supervisor, the engineer is responsible for preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems. The role requires performing tests, monitoring equipment, analyzing data, installing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems, and ensuring safe operation of critical infrastructure such as UPS, generators, chillers, HVAC, and fire/life‑safety systems. • Perform tests, rounds, and data analysis to verify fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and emergency systems. • Monitor, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air‑conditioning, boilers, and related mechanical equipment. • Diagnose system malfunctions and execute corrective actions. • Install, repair, and rebuild pumps, motors, air compressors, heat exchangers, and associated piping and valves. • Wire single‑ and three‑phase motors, run conduit, and install electrical controls and motor switches. • Operate and maintain critical equipment such as UPS systems, generators, chillers, and critical air‑conditioning units. • Oversee contractor activities, provide training, and ensure compliance with safety and emergency procedures. • Maintain accurate engineering logs, round readings, and documentation of building systems. • Ensure adherence to Critical Facility Work Authorization (CWA) and related engineering guidelines.

What You Bring
Candidates must have hands‑on data‑center experience, a high school diploma or GED, an Operating Engineer license (SMA) or equivalent, and obtain Universal Technician certification for CFCs within 90 days of employment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel and strong verbal/written communication skills are also required. • Hands‑on data‑center/critical facility experience with UPS, generators, and switchgear. • High school diploma/GED; Operating Engineer license (SMA) or equivalent. • Certification as Universal Technician for CFCs (or within 90 days of hire). • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. • Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
