About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the General Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all phases of railway track construction and maintenance. This role ensures projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with design specifications, while coordinating workers, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. Key responsibilities include providing leadership to construction teams, allocating labor, equipment, and materials, and conducting detailed reviews of drawings and contract documents. The Superintendent supervises field work, monitors quality standards, manages productivity, reports weekly production and labor metrics, and handles contract scope and change orders in partnership with project management. The role also involves budget oversight, investigation of alternative methods to improve efficiency, coordination of subcontractor schedules and deliveries, and enforcement of company policies, safety programs, and work rules. The superintendent works both on‑site and in the office and performs other duties as required. Additional duties include reviewing and approving timesheets, participating in invoicing and extra billing, fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a liaison among owners, inspectors, staff, and subcontractors, and preparing status reports for management and clients. The superintendent is also expected to engage new clients to support business growth. • Lead railway track construction and maintenance projects, ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and design compliance. • Allocate and schedule labor, equipment, and materials to meet quality and budget targets. • Review drawings, designs, and contracts to fully understand project requirements. • Supervise field crews and subcontractors, monitoring quality standards and productivity. • Report weekly production quantities and labor productivity to the office. • Manage contract scope and change orders in collaboration with the project management team. • Oversee project budgets and explore alternative methods to improve efficiency. • Coordinate subcontractor schedules, deliveries, and equipment needs. • Enforce company policies, safety programs, and work rules for all field personnel. • Review and approve timesheets, assist with invoicing and extra billing. • Build and maintain effective relationships with owners, inspectors, staff, and subcontractors. • Prepare and deliver status reports for management, clients, and project teams. • Pursue new client opportunities to grow the business.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least ten years of recent construction experience, with a strong knowledge of industry practices; railway experience is preferred but not required. Required qualifications include expertise in project controls, material and contract management, a proven record of delivering projects on time and within budget, a valid clean driver’s license, and a high school diploma supplemented by post‑secondary training or equivalent experience. The position requires travel to job sites, exposure to outdoor conditions in all weather, work around live track, and the ability to operate in urban, rural, or isolated locations.
