About the Role
The Boilermaker will construct iron and steel structures to specifications, primarily working on the construction of a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and related structures for new construction projects. Key responsibilities include reading blueprints and specifications to determine material needs, identifying required tools and safety risks, fabricating equipment, hoisting and rigging components, verifying alignment of structural steel members, and connecting columns, beams, and girders using bolts, rivets, or welding. Additional tasks involve cutting, bending, and welding steel pieces, as well as maintaining adherence to safety and quality standards throughout the erection process. • Read and interpret blueprints, IFC drawings, and craft specifications. • Identify required tools and safety precautions for each task. • Fabricate, cut, bend, and weld steel components according to instructions. • Hoist and rig equipment using cranes or bull rigs. • Align and verify vertical/horizontal placement of structural members with laser, plumb bobs, and levels. • Bolt, rivet, and securely connect columns, beams, and girders. • Apply safe rigging practices, including correct knots and slings. • Calculate and apply proper torque and tension using torque wrenches and indicators. • Operate specialty tools such as torque guns, magnetic drills, and hogan drills. • Use equipment like JLG man baskets and cranes safely and maintain basic inspections.

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least four years of experience as a Boilermaker Helper, Boilermaker Ironworker, or a comparable role, with specific experience on gas‑fired combined‑cycle power unit HRSGs. They must meet all physical requirements, be capable of working at heights over 300 ft, possess the necessary tools and reliable transportation, and pass all pre‑employment screenings including physical, drug test, and motor vehicle record checks. Required qualifications cover leadership in steel erection and rigging, the ability to read and interpret IFC drawings, craft specifications, and change notices, and proficiency in rigging practices, bolting procedures, torque and tension calculations, and the use of specialty tools such as torque wrenches, skidmore devices, and magnetic drills. Knowledge of welding methods, equipment operation, basic maintenance, and core math skills is also essential, along with a willingness to perform any additional duties as instructed. Preferred candidates are current or former Zachry employees, have prior experience with Zachry Industrial, hold NCCER certification for Industrial Journeyman Carpenter, and possess formal technical education. The role demands extensive physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb, as well as working at heights, on ladders, platforms, and man lifts while using appropriate fall protection. Personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather boots must be worn at all times. • Demonstrate leadership in steel erection, grid layout, and rigging activities. • Maintain proficiency in math for measurements, calculations, and material estimations. • Meet physical requirements: lift up to 50 lb, work at heights over 300 ft, and use required PPE. • Possess 4+ years of Boilermaker experience with HRSG work on gas‑fired combined‑cycle units. • Have reliable transportation, all required tools, and pass pre‑employment screenings.
