About the Role
The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in planning, implementing, coordinating, and supervising mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, energy management, and manpower development for assigned properties, adhering to high ethical standards and company policies. The role includes hands‑on operational duties, maintenance work, and may require participation in watch activities, with responsibility for ensuring building systems operate efficiently and safely. • Supervise maintenance staff and manage projects in the Chief Engineer’s absence • Address plumbing, HVAC, and electrical issues as needed • Create and implement preventive maintenance programs and recommend improvements • Develop and update building‑specific maintenance and safety manuals • Conduct staff training and ensure completion of mandatory compliance training • Coordinate maintenance activities with external contractors and technicians • Perform regular inspections of mechanical, electrical, and equipment systems and adjust controls • Inspect equipment rooms and work areas to maintain clean, safe conditions • Ensure mechanical equipment, systems, and distribution are properly labeled, color‑coded, and rooms are painted • Respond promptly to emergencies and customer concerns • Communicate continuously with tenants, clients, property management, and vendors • Manage inventory control programs and maintain as‑built drawings and equipment manuals • Contribute to maintenance staff performance reviews and prepare engineering reports • Verify compliance with codes, regulations, and company directives

What You Bring
The position works in a professional office setting but also requires travel between properties and frequent interaction with tenants, clients, vendors, and property management; standard office equipment is used daily. Physical demands include the ability to stoop, stand, climb, lift at least 50 lb, crouch, reach, and install equipment, as well as clear verbal communication and the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, at least five years of commercial property experience, relevant technical training or certifications, and appropriate trade licenses; a valid driver’s license and basic computer skills are also required. • Maintain proficiency in C&W Engineering Standards and building system operations • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills • Exhibit organization, technical proficiency, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities • Hold relevant vocational/technical certificates, trade licenses (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician), and Universal Technician certification • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record • Proficient in Outlook, Excel, and Word; capable of extended shifts, on‑call duties, and overtime
