About the Role

Key responsibilities include building relationships with industry associations, taking leadership roles, presenting conference abstracts, and encouraging team participation in professional organizations. The leader will serve as client manager for selected agencies and may act as principal, project manager, technical lead, or quality manager on projects such as studies, master plans, rate studies, design of pipelines, pump stations, treatment plants, and system optimization. Support for HDR’s One Water Institute and applied research projects, such as collaborations with the Water Research Foundation, is also expected. The position involves actively managing the Southern California market‑sector staff in coordination with the Water Business Group Manager and Market Sector Director, while upholding HDR’s values and employee‑owned culture. HDR’s commitment to inclusion is reinforced by eight employee network groups that foster belonging and support for all employees. • Set vision and strategy for the Southern California wastewater program. • Collaborate with local and national leadership to expand research, planning, design, and engineering services. • Engage with industry associations, lead committees, and submit conference abstracts. • Serve as client manager and assume roles such as principal, project manager, technical lead, or quality manager on projects. • Identify and develop new project opportunities; act as pursuit champion for HDR bids. • Lead or participate in applied research projects, including collaborations with the Water Research Foundation. • Manage and develop Southern California market‑sector staff in partnership with business group managers. • Maintain a visible profile in the market sector through professional organizations and publications.

What You Bring

• Hold a B.S. in engineering (or related field) and a Professional Engineer (PE) license. • Bring 15+ years of wastewater industry experience in Southern California. • Provide 10+ years of experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs for planning/engineering services. • Demonstrate proven ability to cultivate client relationships and lead project pursuits. • Show experience in recruiting, mentoring, and supporting staff career growth. • Be proficient with Microsoft Office, estimating, and scheduling software.
