About the Role

The Principal Investigator will lead cultural resource projects, including Class I‑III surveys, testing, and data recovery, and develop project‑specific research designs and methodologies. Responsibilities include overseeing compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA, NEPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and state/local regulations, supervising and mentoring field staff, coordinating with clients, agencies, and Tribal Nations, and delivering high‑quality technical reports. The role also manages budgets, schedules, and staffing to ensure efficiency, contributes to business development, and remains current with archaeological research and best practices. • Serve as Principal Investigator for Class I‑III surveys, testing, and data recovery projects. • Design and implement project‑specific research methodologies. • Lead compliance with Section 106 NHPA, NEPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and state/local regulations. • Supervise and mentor field directors, crew chiefs, archaeologists, and technicians. • Coordinate with clients, SHPO, ASM, federal and state agencies, and Tribal Nations. • Oversee preparation of technical reports, management summaries, and deliverables. • Manage project budgets, schedules, and staffing to ensure efficiency and profitability. • Contribute to business development through proposal writing and client relationship building. • Stay current with archaeological research, regulatory developments, and best practices. • Perform field work in varied terrains, carrying equipment (20‑50 lb) and traveling as needed.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a Master’s or PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field and possess at least five years of cultural resource management experience, with demonstrated expertise in Southwest and Arizona archaeology. Required skills include knowledge of Arizona permitting processes, technical writing, RPA certification (or ability to obtain), and proficiency with geospatial software such as ArcGIS. Additional qualifications include experience leading surveys, managing budgets and staff, public outreach, and the ability to perform physical field tasks and hold a valid driver’s license. • Hold a Master’s or PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field. • Possess at least five years of cultural resource management experience with Southwest/Arizona expertise. • Knowledge of Arizona permitting processes (ASM, SHPO) and federal permitting. • RPA certification or ability to obtain; strong technical writing and communication skills. • Proficiency with geospatial and archaeological software (ArcGIS, Collector, Trimble, etc.). • Ability to lift up to 50 lb, walk long distances on rugged terrain, and hold a valid driver’s license.
