About the Role
The Capture Lead / Bid Director role sits within AECOM’s Water business in the UK and Ireland, part of the Strategy and Growth team. The incumbent is accountable for capturing, positioning and successfully bidding major water contracts, typically generating £35 million or more in revenue. This role shapes winning solutions through strategic positioning, early client collaboration and strong leadership across complex pursuits. In the growth strategy function, the leader drives new business and renewal opportunities by developing holistic capture plans that incorporate client listening, win‑strategy development, solution shaping and coordinated marketing. Using data‑led insight, they build a diversified pipeline of qualified opportunities and own pursuit strategies from early capture through to post‑bid debriefs, continually refining tactics based on market and competitive analysis. The role also identifies, selects and leads strategic partnerships, joint ventures and consortiums, defining partner roles and value contributions to deliver integrated solutions. It cultivates senior‑level relationships with water utilities, regulators and public‑sector bodies, acting as the senior representative in partner negotiations and executive client engagements. Commercially, the Capture Lead sets direction for delivery models, risk appetite, pricing and value propositions, providing senior challenge and assurance that solutions are differentiated and financially sound. They provide clear strategic guidance to bid teams, influence internal stakeholders to align resources, and oversee the development of compliant, persuasive bid content by technical writers. • Lead capture and bidding for AECOM’s largest water sector contracts (£35m+ revenue). • Develop and execute holistic capture plans, including win strategies, solution shaping and marketing. • Build and maintain a diversified pipeline using data‑led insights to prioritize high‑value opportunities. • Identify and manage strategic partnerships, joint ventures and consortiums to strengthen proposals. • Cultivate senior‑level client relationships and lead executive engagement throughout procurement. • Define commercial direction, risk appetite, pricing and value proposition for major pursuits. • Provide strategic guidance and assurance to bid, technical and commercial teams. • Influence senior internal stakeholders to align resources and priorities for priority bids. • Guide technical writers to create compliant, persuasive bid content.

What You Bring
Successful candidates have a proven track record of winning large‑scale water utility contracts, strong technical and delivery expertise, and the ability to translate client needs into compelling bid solutions. They demonstrate executive‑level communication, experience with partner‑led delivery models, sound commercial judgement and deep knowledge of the UK water regulatory environment, together with experience working in matrix organisations. • Demonstrate proven track record delivering $35m+ water utility contracts. • Possess strong technical, delivery and commercial judgement within the UK water regulatory environment.
