About the Role
In this role, the designer will assist in developing calculations such as short‑circuit, arc‑flash, lighting, and grounding analyses, as well as preparing reports, code analyses, and comprehensive design documents including power, lighting, fire‑alarm, special‑systems, grounding, schematic, and wiring diagrams. Key duties include performing site surveys, supporting construction activities, producing accurate drawings from sketches, applying NEC requirements, collaborating with the lead engineer, maintaining project files in AutoCAD/Revit, working independently on design projects, sizing and specifying components, preparing equipment layouts and plans, and coordinating with other design disciplines. • Conduct site surveys to assess existing electrical system conditions. • Provide construction support as needed. • Prepare clear, accurate drawings from rough or detailed sketches. • Apply National Electrical Code requirements and engineering fundamentals to designs. • Collaborate with lead engineer to determine drawing intent and content. • Maintain discipline files of working drawings in AutoCAD and/or Revit. • Work independently on design projects and coordinate drafting efforts. • Size and specify electrical components and materials. • Develop equipment layouts and establish proper space requirements. • Create power, lighting, and special systems plans. • Coordinate electrical design work with architectural, mechanical, site, and plumbing disciplines.

What You Bring
GFT is seeking a talented Sr. Electrical Designer to join its electrical design group in Raleigh, NC, working under a hybrid model that includes occasional office attendance. Ideal candidates bring at least three years of experience in an engineering or A/E firm, strong AutoCAD skills (required) and Revit experience (desired), knowledge of low‑voltage power distribution (required) and lighting design (preferred), the ability to work with minimal supervision, detail‑oriented quality focus, an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, teamwork, and excellent communication abilities. • Minimum 3 years of experience in an engineering or architectural/engineering firm. • Proficient in AutoCAD (required); Revit experience highly desirable. • Knowledge of low‑voltage power distribution (required) and lighting design (preferred). • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines. • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is a plus. • Strong verbal and written communication skills; collaborative team member.
