About the Role

The role requires more than ten years of experience in bridge design and analysis, with responsibilities that include leading structural and rehabilitation design, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, meeting with clients, and providing day‑to‑day technical leadership. The engineer will also oversee quality review, mentor junior staff, and manage the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates. Key duties involve designing and analyzing bridge components, ensuring compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contracts, developing detailed contract drawings, assisting with CAD production, calculating quantities, estimating construction costs, reviewing shop drawings, and performing NBIS inspections and load ratings. The engineer must keep project managers informed of workload changes, handle complex technical issues, develop project scopes, estimate manpower, prepare CPM schedules, track progress, and assist in business proposal preparation. • Lead design and analysis of bridge structural components. • Conduct NBIS inspections and perform load ratings. • Prepare construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates. • Review project designs for compliance with engineering standards and client contracts. • Mentor and train less experienced engineers. • Develop contract drawings and assist with CAD production. • Manage project scope, manpower estimates, CPM schedules, and progress tracking. • Provide technical guidance on complex engineering problems. • Maintain South Carolina PE licensure and pursue continuing education.

What You Bring

Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, a South Carolina PE license (or the ability to obtain one within six months), at least ten years of bridge design experience, proficiency in Microstation, MS Office, MathCAD, and structural analysis software such as AASHTOWare BrR, Staad.Pro, MDX, or LEAP Bridge, and familiarity with AASHTO LRFD specifications and the SCDOT Bridge Design Manual. Strong communication skills, a team‑oriented mindset, and a commitment to professional development and inclusion are also essential. • Proficient in Microstation, AASHTOWare BrR, Staad.Pro, MDX, LEAP Bridge, MathCAD, and MS Office. • Experience with SCDOT bridge design and AASHTO LRFD specifications. • Design‑build experience (preferred). • Previous SCDOT project management experience (preferred).
