About the Role
In this position you will support the design, modification and assurance of HVAC and building services infrastructure, ensuring compliance with standards and safe operation throughout the asset lifecycle. • Preserve HVAC and Building Services design intent throughout each asset’s lifecycle. • Ensure current design standards are established and adhered to for RRSL‑operated infrastructure. • Deliver design, modification, and build assurance in line with Rolls‑Royce Design Authorities. • Oversee safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of HVAC and Building Services assets. • Approve and assure significant changes to infrastructure. • Apply a pragmatic, risk‑based approach with strong technical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.

What You Bring
We are hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer – Submarines to work in Derby on a day‑time pattern, within the Infrastructure Design Authority. The role requires specialist expertise in heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning (HVAC) and building services, acting as the Intelligent Customer and subject‑matter expert for all related systems. The ideal candidate has UK experience in regulated infrastructure design, construction and operation, a solid grasp of Euro Codes and British Standards, and can apply a pragmatic, risk‑based approach. Chartered Engineer status with CIBSE or IMechE is desirable, and familiarity with nuclear sector practices is a plus. A Security Check (SC) clearance is required (or eligibility for one) and candidates must be UK nationals or approved dual nationals. The selection process may include an online cognitive and behavioural assessment. • Demonstrated experience in design, construction, and operation of regulated and conventional infrastructure in the UK. • Strong knowledge of Euro Codes, British Standards, Codes of Practice and relevant guidance documents. • Familiarity with nuclear sector working practices (desirable). • Chartered Engineer registration with CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent (desirable). • Hold or be eligible for Security Check (SC) clearance and meet UK nationality requirements. • Willingness to complete online cognitive and behavioural assessments as part of the recruitment process.
