About the Role
• Lead teams of staff and subconsultants on master plans, specific plans, zoning updates, housing analyses, market studies, grant applications, corridor and mobility strategies. • Manage planning projects, overseeing budget, staffing, and schedule. • Produce high‑quality documents, exhibit boards, and engagement materials. • Direct demographic, economic, environmental, and GIS research and coordinate interdisciplinary analysis. • Coordinate public engagement, workshops, hearings, staff reports, and notice processes. • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. • Interpret and apply relevant government policies, codes, ordinances, and regulations. • Serve as liaison between community groups, agencies, developers, and officials for plan development. • Present projects to planning commissions, city councils, and elected officials. • Draft, review, and present formal technical reports and correspondence. • Identify community opportunities and trends for strategic policy development. • Collaborate with leadership to engage clients, generate new business, and support on‑call planning contracts.

What You Bring
The Associate Principal Planner will join AECOM's California community and regional planning practice in Los Angeles, supporting a wide range of multidisciplinary projects such as specific plans, zoning updates, housing policy, economic analyses, and master plans. The role requires strong communication, project management, and community engagement skills, and offers the opportunity to work on projects across California and nationally. • Bachelor’s degree in urban, regional, or city planning (or related field). • Minimum 8 years of planning or economics experience (or equivalent education/experience). • Preferred: 15 + years experience and a master’s degree in planning. • Knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) preferred.

Benefits
Compensation for this position ranges from $165,000 to $185,000 annually, with a hybrid work model based in Los Angeles, CA.
