About the Role

Key duties include operating software to control cameras, dynamic signs, and ramp meters, detecting and logging traffic events, and dispatching Road Ranger Safety Service Patrols. Dispatchers also update response plans, monitor weather effects, coordinate with FDOT signal personnel, and maintain the fl511.com traveler information website. Communication tasks involve answering calls, providing incident information to the public, radio coordination with law enforcement and emergency services, and documenting all activities in clear written reports. • Operate ATMS software to monitor freeway cameras, dynamic signs, and ramp meters. • Detect and verify traffic incidents such as crashes, debris, or stalled vehicles. • Log events and lane closures using software applications. • Dispatch Road Ranger Safety Service Patrols to incident locations. • Provide clear directions and incident descriptions to field personnel. • Update response plans and adjust as traffic conditions change. • Monitor weather impacts and issue notifications to motorists and agencies. • Coordinate with FDOT signal personnel and update the fl511.com traveler information website. • Perform routine updates of asset records, equipment, and contact lists. • Communicate with road rangers, local agencies, and wrecker companies via radio and phone. • Answer and route calls from motorists, FDOT staff, and emergency responders. • Document all communications and actions in clear, concise written reports. • Meet high customer service standards and follow standard operating procedures.

What You Bring

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, be able to remain seated for long periods, and be proficient with software and web applications. A background and drug screening are required. Preferred applicants have call‑center or dispatch experience, strong oral and written communication skills, familiarity with Florida’s freeway system, and the ability to work calmly under pressure. • Minimum: High school diploma/GED, ability to sit for extended periods, software proficiency, pass background check and drug screen. • Preferred: Call center or dispatch experience, strong oral/written communication, map reading skills, knowledge of Florida road network, ability to work calmly under pressure.
