About the Role
Key duties include sewing materials by hand or machine, cutting fabrics to specification, inspecting finished articles for conformance, setting up and maintaining sewing equipment, and recording material usage in production logs. The technician must monitor machine operation for defects, replace needles, clean and oil machines, and ensure all work follows established flight and training procedures and work‑authorizing documents. • Operate industrial sewing machines (straight stitch, walking foot, bartack, buttonhole, 3‑thread rolled hem serger). • Read and interpret soft‑goods fabrication and assembly drawings. • Fabricate, assemble, and repair soft‑goods components for space suits. • Cut fabrics and excess material to specifications using blades, scissors, or electric knives. • Monitor machine operation and resolve stitching, thread breakage, or malfunction issues. • Set up sewing machines, install needles, thread spools, and adjust guides per specifications. • Maintain equipment by cleaning, oiling, and replacing needles as needed. • Record material usage and production details in logs. • Inspect finished articles to verify conformance with standards and drawings. • Ensure product quality and accuracy according to fabrication instructions. • Work collaboratively in a team and follow all safety and quality policies.

What You Bring
The Space Suit Sewing Technician will support KBR’s Space Suit Design Team at Johnson Space Center, fabricating, assembling and repairing soft‑goods components for space suits. The role requires proficiency with industrial sewing machines such as straight‑stitch (single and double needle), walking foot, bartack, buttonhole and 3‑thread rolled‑hem serger, as well as the ability to read soft‑goods fabrication and assembly drawings. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, hold a high school diploma or GED, and possess at least five years of related experience. They must demonstrate the ability to work to very tight tolerances, follow safety and quality policies, and collaborate effectively in a team environment. Preferred candidates have prior experience sewing components for space flight programs and products, bringing specialized knowledge of aerospace requirements to the role. The position is located onsite at the customer facility in Webster, Texas. Benefits
Compensation ranges from $59,700 to $89,600 annually for this location, with additional eligibility for bonuses, commissions, sign‑on incentives, relocation assistance and other discretionary payments based on performance and contract parameters.
