As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you will help design critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high‑performance data centers driving AI to dynamic commercial environments, your work will support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. In this role you will execute projects and manage multidisciplinary teams using HDR’s business systems and project‑management tools, build technical expertise and design capacity through recruitment, staff development, and training, and may lead and mentor other staff. You will also participate in external marketing and planning, with some regional or national travel expected. Key responsibilities include contract preparation and negotiation, scheduling, budgeting, invoicing, and project quality control, while maintaining clear communication with clients and coordinating sub‑consultants to deliver projects on time and within budget. • Lead multidisciplinary design teams through planning, design, permitting, and construction phases. • Manage client relationships and develop business for the Charlotte design center. • Coordinate sub‑consultants and ensure project delivery on time and within budget. • Prepare and negotiate contracts, create schedules, manage budgets, handle invoicing, and oversee quality control. • Recruit, train, and mentor staff to build technical expertise and design capacity. • Participate in external marketing, business development, and regional/national travel as needed.

What You Bring

HDR is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager for the Building Engineering Services Business Group in Charlotte or Raleigh. The ideal candidate has at least five years of progressive experience leading design teams on facility projects through planning, design, permitting, and construction phases, and will handle client development and management for our Charlotte design center. Preferred qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in engineering, five years of related experience, project‑management experience, a professional engineering license, and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong leadership, planning, and presentation skills are essential, and local candidates are preferred. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, five years of related experience, and a professional engineering license recognized in the job location. Experience with MS Office, MS Project (Access a plus), and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture are also required. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least five years of relevant experience. • Possess a professional engineering (PE or P.Eng) license valid in the job location. • Demonstrate project‑management experience and proficiency with MS Office, MS Project (Access a plus). • Exhibit strong leadership, planning, and presentation skills; local candidates preferred.
