About the Role
The Senior Control Systems Designer will design complex SCADA systems and develop instrumentation, control panels, and network specifications. Working under a Control Systems Engineer, the role delivers packages that include specifications, sequences of operation, and control system drawings for multiple concurrent projects. Coordination with multidisciplinary teams ensures proper power integration, panel locations, remote monitoring, and third‑party system integration. The designer also engages with clients on schematic development, reviews shop drawings, and participates in design and production meetings. • Participate in design of complex SCADA systems • Assist with selection and specification of instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment • Develop accurate instrumentation and control system construction documents • Perform routine engineering assignments using standard techniques • Work independently on small projects or support senior staff on larger projects • Provide direction to clerical and technical personnel • Produce deliverable packages: write/edit specs, select instrumentation, develop sequences of operation, create control system drawings • Coordinate control system engineering work with multidisciplinary teams (power, panels, remote monitoring, integration, networking, device locations) • Conduct schematic design development and contract document sessions with clients • Review shop drawing submittals, respond to RFIs, conduct field observations, and develop reports • Participate in design and production meetings on instrumentation and control systems

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or a related field and possess at least ten years of relevant experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture are required. Preferred qualifications include experience managing control‑systems projects, prior work with an A&E consulting firm, expertise in AutoCAD and Plant 3D or Revit, and CAP certification.
